As part of a conceptual design project, we created a garden for a contemporary barn conversion that packs a big punch. The design balances the functions that we as humans desire with the needs of the environment. We achieved this by incorporating elements with low visual impact, such as the ha-ha surrounding half of the garden and low-impact fencing, and by blending the pasture though a wildflower meadow and orchard into the formal gardens. The streamlined cantilevered pool acts as the main focal point for the formal garden and emphasises the stunning view. The pool’s overhang provides shelter for the pasture, and the low-lying minimalist nature reduces the pool’s visibility from outside the formal garden.
